On Sunday May 22 2011 New Zealand welcomes back that grand tradition of fundraising, the telethlon. The Rise Up Christchurch – Te Kotahitanga Telethlon, proudly supported by Fonterra is raising funds to help out the people of Christchurch.
With you, we can all make the event a nation-wide success – and have fun along the way. Here’s what you can do:
- Run a cake stall, donate the proceeds
- Attend the Rise Up event nearest you
- Organise a party and collect a koha
- Challenge* friends, relatives and celebs to do silly things
- Watch the telethon & phone in a donation
- Tell your Facebook friends
- Organise your school band or glee club to do a concert and charge an admission
Get yourself on telly
Bring your fund raising team to one of the events in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch on May 22 and we will try to show their cheque presentation on TV.
Alternatively if you think you have a great idea that should be shown on TV, please send the details of what you’re planning to do to infor@riseup.org.nz and in the subject line please insert “school fundraiser”. We’d like to know where you school is, what you’re planning to do and where and when you’re planning to do it. It would also help greatly if you could indicate when would be the best time for us to video the most visual part of your fundraiser.
The Rise Up Christchurch – Te Kotahitanga Telethlon is on Sunday 22 May from 9am to 9pm on Maori TV.

Two millionth breakfast celebration
18/05/2011
On the 20th June this year, just over two years since the programme’s inception, KickStart Breakfast will provide the two millionth breakfast! Help us celebrate and we will send you free KickStart Breakfast aprons!
That’s two million times KickStart kids have felt happy, full and ready to start their school day. We all know the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast are significant. You regularly tell us students love coming to breakfast club to chat with their friends, that social skills and table manners are developing, students in class concentration levels are improving and that students are generally happier.
We want to celebrate our 2 millionth breakfast to encourage all students to eat healthy breakfasts regularly. With your help we could celebrate the importance of breakfast throughout your local community, you could;
- Hold a family breakfast and invite parents, grandparents, caregivers to attend your breakfast club as well.
- Hold a community breakfast and invite those living within the local area to come and learn about the school and the programmes you run.
- Advertise your breakfast club around the school to increase participation.
- Invite the local MPs, fire-fighters, police or local businesses to attend and share stories about how breakfast helps them KickStart their day.
- Invite the local paper to attend and run a story on your breakfast club.
To help you decorate your club, we have developed some posters with some key messages around KickStart Breakfast. These are easy to download and print in A3, they would look great as is or even laminated.
If you do plan to hold a celebration breakfast throughout June, let us know your plan and we will send you a KickStart Breakfast Apron, but be quick its first in first serve!
